South America in 35mm – January 2019

Twenty 35mm film scans from 14 days spent between Quito, Cotopaxi, and Medellîn.  Shot on a Canon Rebel 2000 bought from a pawn shop attendant a day before we left Kansas City paired with a mix of Kodak Ektachrome, Portra 800 and Ilford 400 that had been sitting in my freezer for a couple weeks.

I’ve been fortunate enough to spend at least a couple weeks the past three years in South America, including short stays in Santiago, Chile & Lima, Peru.  What I’ve noticed in the larger cities is that 35mm film is still popular among the street vendors and shop owners whereas digital is king in the United States.

This year and with that in mind, I thought it would be fun to create some analog memories the way the locals do.  Enjoy!
